About Us
Child's Right to Thrive is an organization created to advocate for children around the world who grow up without parental care. It does so by providing resources for and promoting collaboration between organizations and individuals working on behalf of these children.
In 2007, graduate students from the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development at Tufts University united their advocacy efforts on behalf of children in state and community care and founded Child's Right to Thrive. Children's well-being is an urgent global concern that can unite villages, nations, and continents, and engage people of all backgrounds in a constructive dialogue. With work and advocacy experience ranging from the U.S. to China, Ukraine, Romania, South Africa, and India, members of Child's Right to Thrive seek to encourage such dialogue and collaboration.
The name Child's Right to Thrive reflects the belief that every child has a right to develop positively. The task of adults, therefore, is to support positive overall development of the child. Work affecting the lives of children must be guided by scientific merit and best practices as developed through collaboration among professionals and communities.
Created with a grant from the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University, Child's Right to Thrive provides educational opportunities on the Tufts campus, engages students in civic engagement activities which benefit children in congregate care, and encourages public awareness via its website.
Available to interested individuals and organizations, this site serves as an online arena for the advocacy work and information exchange related to child development. This website offers reviews of research articles and books related to child and adolescent development; a discussion forum to foster the exchange of ideas; and volunteer opportunities. The materials contained within this website are accordingly driven by the interests and needs of our audience.
